Job Summary

The incumbent will perform thorough reviews of orders of interest and reports of potential suspicious activities, including those involving potential abuse or diversion of relevant controlled substances, and ensure timely completion of reviews and referrals to the DEA team for further investigations.  The incumbent will make a determination as to whether to review and escalate relevant matters.  The incumbent will assure that the company is proactive in its customer wholesaler and pharmacies’ due diligence efforts. The incumbent will focus on the optimization of business and compliance processes that will be used to support improvement initiatives of the Suspicious Order Monitoring (SOM) program. The incumbent will be a “Courageous Innovator,” leveraging benchmarking and internal development, to maintain best in class for SOM.  The incumbent will evaluate algorithms programmed in the order entry system that are used to detect potentially suspicious orders. Analyze charge back reports and other data for trends, audit customer responses to Customer Data Integrity questionnaire.

  • Participates in the due diligence evaluation of new controlled substance customers and existing customers purchasing and/or prescribing controlled products for the first time
  • Directs and performs thorough reviews of orders of interest and suspect customer profiles and ensures timely completion of reviews and referrals to the DEA Associate Director.
  • Assures that the company is proactive in its customer due diligence efforts.
  • Stays current on product and geographic abuse and diversion trends as well as industry trends.
  • Maintains best practices, Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) guidance, and other relevant regulatory agencies.
  • Utilizes data analysis techniques to detect anomalies in order and prescription data.
  • Generates report information and presents SOM metrics to management, and other applicable personnel.
  • Makes determination of whether to review and escalate a customer order.
  • Current and proactive with training regarding SOM and “know your customer” obligations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Must be capable of bending and lifting, moving and/or carrying approximately 50 pounds.
  • Ability to navigate office, lab, and/or plant floor working environments, stands, ambulates, and reaches.
  • Must have the ability to wear applicable personal protective equipment utilized at the site, including but not limited to respirators, safety glasses/goggles, and safety shoes.
Education and Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's Degree in a business related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience required).
  • Certified Pharmacy Tech with 3 - 5 years’ experience and/or general knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Familiarity with the regulatory environment, preferably pharmaceutical and/or healthcare industry.
  • Must display a sharp attention to detail.Must demonstrate ability to work independently, efficiently with limited supervision; self-driven.
  • The incumbent must have excellent capabilities in data analysis and modeling expertise with the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). SAP experience preferred.
  • Must have English language fluency, both written and verbal, with the ability to communicate at all levels within the organization.
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant analyst experience in pharmaceutical or other related industry.
  • Must possess a minimum of 3 - 5 years’ experience in a customer service related position or with working with controlled substances within the pharmaceutical industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of DEA regulations. Previous interactions with DEA personnel from Field Offices and DEA Headquarters, experience working with representatives from large wholesale and retail pharmaceutical chain customers is a plus. Previous experience communicating across all levels of an organization.
  • Incumbent must have excellent written, oral communication and interpersonal skills.
  • General knowledge of DEA requirements as they relate to SOM and experience with SOM investigations and systems is a plus.
