Position Summary
The Construction Controller is responsible for overseeing all financial operations of a construction company, including job cost accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance, AR, AP, Certified Payroll, OCIP etc…
This role manages the accounting department and ensures accurate reporting using construction-specific accounting systems (FoundationSoft).
 
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management
  • Oversee all accounting operations including AP/AR/payroll, and general ledger.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Manage company cash flow, forecasting, and banking relationships.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and construction industry accounting standards.
 
Construction and Job Cost Accounting
  • Manage job cost reporting and WIP (Work-In-Progress) schedules.
  • Monitor project budges, cost codes, and profitability.
  • Review percentage-of-completion revenue recognition
  • Work closely with project managers to track project financial performance.
 
Software & Systems
  • Administer and optimize the use of FoundationSoft construction accounting system.
  • Implement financial controls and reporting automation.
  • Generate job cost reports, billing reports, and financial dashboards.
 
Leadership
  • Manage and develop accounting staff
  • Coordinate with operations and executive leadership
  • Lead annual budgeting and forecasting process.
 
Compliance & Risk Management
  • Manage audits, tax filings, and regulatory reporting.
  • Oversee lien waivers, insurance tracking, and subcontractor compliance.
  • Ensure internal financial controls are in place.
 
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • CPA is a plus
  • 7-15+ years accounting experience
  • 5+ years in construction accounting
  • Direct experience using FoundationSoft construction accounting system.
  • Experience managing job costing and WIP schedules
  • Strong knowledge of construction financial reporting
  • Advanced Excel and financial modeling
  • Leadership and team management
  • Strong communication with operations teams
