Senior Construction Accountant

Full-time Onsite Direct Hire Pay Rate: DoE Position Summary The Senior Construction Accountant will serve as the company's primary accounting professional, responsible for the day-to-day accounting and financial operations of a growing construction organization. This is a highly hands-on role for someone who enjoys rolling up their sleeves and performing the work rather than managing a large team. The ideal candidate will have strong construction accounting experience, including pay applications, supplier waivers, job costing, project financial analysis, accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and general ledger accounting. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with company leadership and grow into a future Controller-level role as the organization expands. Key Responsibilities Construction Accounting & Project Financial Management Prepare and manage owner pay applications (PayApps) and construction billing. Process and track supplier and subcontractor lien waivers. Monitor project budgets versus actual costs and analyze project profitability. Maintain job cost reporting, cost codes, and project financial records. Assist with Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules and project performance reporting. Partner with project managers and operations teams to ensure accurate project financial data. Support percentage-of-completion revenue recognition and project accounting activities. General Accounting Perform day-to-day accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger maintenance. Prepare and review bank reconciliations and account reconciliations. Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes. Prepare financial reports and supporting schedules for management review. Maintain accurate accounting records and supporting documentation. Support cash flow monitoring and financial planning activities. Payroll & Compliance Assist with certified payroll processing and reporting. Maintain subcontractor compliance documentation, insurance certificates, and related records. Support lien waiver administration and contract compliance requirements. Assist with audit preparation, tax filings, and regulatory reporting. Ensure adherence to company financial controls and accounting policies. Software & Systems Utilize FoundationSoft construction accounting software for daily accounting operations. Generate job cost reports, billing reports, and financial analyses. Maintain accurate accounting data and support process improvements. Leverage Excel for reporting, reconciliations, and financial analysis. Collaboration & Growth Work directly with company ownership and leadership on financial matters. Provide financial insight related to project performance and company operations. Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and strategic financial initiatives. Contribute to the continued development of accounting processes and reporting capabilities. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred. 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably within the construction industry. Direct experience with construction accounting, including pay applications, job costing, and subcontractor compliance. Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and general ledger accounting. FoundationSoft experience strongly preferred. Understanding of WIP schedules, project costing, and construction financial reporting. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Strong analytical and organizational skills. Ability to work independently in a hands-on environment. Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with operations and project teams. CPA designation is a plus.
